SOUTHSIDE WORKSHOP,  SATURDAY 25TH JUNE

Thanks to all the brilliant Southside shoppers who came to join us at the #wispwarriors 'art shop' on Saturday 25th June!  Zaid, Ricky-Lee, Zeba and temporary WISP warrior (Zeba's cousin) Faiz, all did a fantastic job drawing people into the workshop and helping to create some great collages,  working alongside the most wonderful Wandsworth public! Can't wait to see the giant print that is going to appear very soon above Boots and Argos, featuring the WISP students artwork alongside some of the collages created at Southside.

'It was an amazing experience. I loved it!' Zaid

'This is a fantastic place to be with children.  Wonderful people. Lots of fun!!! Love it. It's great. Good interaction.' Southside 'shopper'

'It was enjoyable and I think we should do more events like this!!!
Your favourite student, Ricky-Lee'

'I know this project will be a success. I look forward to seeing the result.  Thank you for the amazing time that reminded me to believe in myself!' Southside 'shopper'

ANIMATING PORTRAITS CONTINUED ...

New students Lucas, Julia and Chloe join WISP Warriors
and begin to make portraits of their own.

Zeba creates a wonderful animation using a
variety of materials to say what she wants.

Fawwaz moves the sand to create a great animation effect.

CREATING PORTRAITS TO ANIMATE ...

We first planned everything in our sketch books and improved our plan as we went through. Our sketch books were used as a record of our ideas.

Some of us used photocopies of patterns
from books to create the background.

We looked at our portraits and talked about what we liked.

'I enjoyed it ... I felt like an artist!!"  Zeba

'I liked the patterns that we copied out.'  Ana

'I make a portrait and I untidy my shirt.'  Abdullah

'It was calm!'  Fawwaz

'I enjoy it and I like it, very beautiful.  I am Tayyaba.'

PHOTO PORTRAITS

We looked at some artist's portraits in the library to get ideas.
We discussed how the background of a portrait told us more about the person.

We liked the portraits by Yayoi Kusama and Yinka Shonibare.

We took photos of ourselves that we thought would portray our characters.

We wrote things about ourselves to come up with ideas for the publicity.

'WISP Warriors' is an international video installation introducing the young students from Wandsworth Interim Schools Project. New to the borough, they have something to say, 'Hello! Jebaleko! Cei me jaei! Hallo! Hola! Bonjour! Ba woni!'

Today was....
