SAM SAYS FAREWELL TO WISP WARRIORS ...

Sadly my last workshop with the amazing WISP Warriors but very excited about our Southside #wispwarriors installation and launch celebration next Wednesday (13th July).  We will be in Southside from 12.30pm, looking up (hopefully!!) at our wonderful, large scale printed artwork above Boots and Argos. Please come along and meet us if you are in the area to celebrate the end of an exciting project.  I am sure WISP Warriors will go from strength to strength next term but I wish all the students that I have worked with the best of luck with their future creative lives.  You were all fantastic throughout this project and I will miss you very much!

‘I’m proud of my background pattern.’  Chloe

'Today I enjoyed a lot because we were doing art and I love art.' Iqra

'Next term I would like to work in groups. It’s better if you have different

ANIMATING PORTRAITS CONTINUED ...

New students Lucas, Julia and Chloe join WISP Warriors
and begin to make portraits of their own.

Zeba creates a wonderful animation using a
variety of materials to say what she wants.

Fawwaz moves the sand to create a great animation effect.

USING IPADS TO ANIMATE OUR PORTRAITS

We used different types of materials and made interesting animations out of them.  Some of us used some passionate quotes and others tried to show what they are like and how they feel inside their head.

CREATING PORTRAITS TO ANIMATE ...

We first planned everything in our sketch books and improved our plan as we went through. Our sketch books were used as a record of our ideas.

Some of us used photocopies of patterns
from books to create the background.

We looked at our portraits and talked about what we liked.

'I enjoyed it ... I felt like an artist!!"  Zeba

'I liked the patterns that we copied out.'  Ana

'I make a portrait and I untidy my shirt.'  Abdullah

'It was calm!'  Fawwaz

'I enjoy it and I like it, very beautiful.  I am Tayyaba.'

PHOTO PORTRAITS

We looked at some artist's portraits in the library to get ideas.
We discussed how the background of a portrait told us more about the person.

We liked the portraits by Yayoi Kusama and Yinka Shonibare.

We took photos of ourselves that we thought would portray our characters.

WANDSWORTH ARTS FRINGE PUBLICITY

Local artist Sam Haynes has been working with students from WISP since February, creating a series of short animations focusing on the theme of identity and change in relation to place.

We wrote things about ourselves to come up with ideas for the publicity.

'WISP Warriors' is an international video installation introducing the young students from Wandsworth Interim Schools Project. New to the borough, they have something to say, 'Hello! Jebaleko! Cei me jaei! Hallo! Hola! Bonjour! Ba woni!'

Today was....

'SUPER, FUN , AWESOME, INTERESTING!'
